If you’re anything like me lately, your instagram has been flooded with ads for Triple Barrel Irons. Also known as Deep Wavers, these handy dandy tools create effortless waves in a fraction of the time. As trends evolve in the salon, we have seen that clients are wanting undone “I woke up like this” looks more than ever. Long gone are the days of flat-ironing our locks to within an inch of their life, or backcombing and spraying until our hair doesn’t move. Even more recently we have seen a departure from perfectly curled waves and more towards messy-but-polished styling. It seems these days clients don’t want to look like they just came from a hair appointment. This is where as a salon, it’s our job to give our clients the tools they need to create effortless, undone styles at home…..Enter the Triple Barrel.
If you’ve never seen one before they can look quite large and intimidating. But give it a go and you’ll realize it’s fool proof. Remember your good ‘ol crimper from your childhood? Yeah, it works exactly like that, but only you don’t end up looking like a poodle. Simply take large sections of your hair and clamp the triple barrel on the section a few inches from your scalp. Continue moving the tool down the section of hair until you’ve created waves throughout the lengths. For a more beachy look, we suggest leaving the last inch or two of the hair un-crimped which will give it that undone texture. Each hair type will react differently to heat so we suggest playing around with the temperature and length of time you hold the iron on the hair until you find the timing that works for you. Typically thick, coarse hair will need a higher temp and longer holding time than fine or thin hair.
Professional Triple Barrel tools can be found on our online store or in any of our salon locations. They come two sizes. The 1” barrel is excellent for shorter hairstyles and for hair texture that typically struggles holding a curl and 1.25” barrels are excellent for long hair that wants more of a subtle wave. Ask your stylist which size would work best for your hair type and start waking up with the hair of your dreams.
