5 Steps to Tame a Frizzy Mane
Do you have naturally curly hair that seems to have a mind of it’s own? We get it, the struggle is REAL. Good news for you, we’ve been there, done that, and as a result we have some curly hair wisdom to share. Artel Cambie stylist, Allie Routledge, has tamed a ringlet or two. She’s sharing five simple steps which will take your do from unruly frizz to silky smooth in no time.
STEP ONE: START WITH WET HAIR
And by wet, we mean sopping wet. Starting this process with wet hair will allow you to have full control to manipulate every single strand of hair. Begin with gently running a thick-toothed comb through your hair.
STEP TWO: SCRUNCH AWAY WITH AN OLD T-SHIRT
You know that rock band t-shirt from that concert in 1998 in the back of your closet? Instead of throwing it away, we’ve found new purpose for it. Flip your wet hair upside down and start scrunching with light pressure. The thin t-shirt fabric is softer and causes less friction against your hair than a towel. Scrunch away until all excess water is removed and your hair is damp.
STEP THREE: APPLY PRODUCT
Allie’s go-to products for creating luscious curly locks are two Kevin Murphy treatments: SMOOTH.AGAIN or KILLER.CURLS. Apply ONE of these products (never use both at the same time) to your hair with your hands starting at the ends. Continue scrunching with your Radiohead t-shirt.
STEP FOUR: DIFFUSE THE SITUATION
Now it’s time to put that trusty diffuser to use! With hair flipped forward, begin diffusing your hair on medium speed, high heat. Avoid touching your hair with your hands as this will cause frizz. Once your hair is almost dry, flip your hair back and finish the job with hair styled as usual.
STEP FIVE: THE FINAL TOUCHES
Apply a small amount of product to your fingers and begin twirling any curls that you want to have extra definition. Once everything is in place exactly how you want it to be, voila! Your look is complete. Gorgeous, frizz-free curls achieved.
